Problems playing large video files after updating to UMS 5.1.1.1

Post by MrSenna »

After updating from 5.1.0 to 5.1.1.1 I'm having problems playing large mkv files on my Samsung UE40D5700 tv. It takes longer to start a video and when it starts playing I can't fast forward or jump to a certain time, it just starts playing again from the beginning when I do that. It also says my video's are 1192 hours long while they're only 40 minutes long and sometimes it won't play at all. It looks like the problem only occurs when playing 1080p files.

Hi MrSenna, please provide logs for 5.1.0 too so we can see what is happening differently :)

This is the trace log from 5.1.0 where it's working fine.

Thanks for the logs. Unfortunately I need you to recreate the 5.1.1.1 logs because TRACE mode was turned on too late. Please enable TRACE mode before opening any folders. Thanks

I just installed UMS 5.1.2. to check if it fixed the problem but unfortunately not, so I recreated the bug and made another trace log.

I have very similar problems but with .mp4 (H264) files. Before (not sure with UMS version), all files sizes played fine on my Sony Bluray player. Now, I can open the file and UMS shows a little status bar that increases and most of the time also a timer that increases, but the bluray player only shows a black screen.

This is the case for 720p files, while 480p files still play just fine. All mp4 H264.

I had time to install older versions of UMS. The first one that worked again was 4.4.0. I also found that independent from the file size, the mp4 files play nearly immediately on my Sony Bluray player. With version 4.4.0 480p, 720p and 1080p mp4 play just fine. It seems version 5.0 breaks that.

Another observation that might be related is that starting with version 5.0 I am seeing in UMS several Sony bluray players all with the same IP address and identifier.

I hope this helps to fix the problem.

Just updated to the lastest 5.1.3, still the same problem. Also did a clean install but that didn't fix the issue. So I went back to 5.1.0, that's the only one that works for me. Could still use some help.

When you pack logs, your detected renderer conf files are added to the zip.
With the latest version try to play something. If it doesn't work but with older version it worked, try to pack debug.log and check renderer.conf files (Samsung-CD.conf, Samsung-noCD.conf etc...)
Delete them from Renderers folder and add the one detected from older and working version (you uploaded it here in forum so use this one)
Restart UMS (completely=quit UMS and start again)
Your renderer should be detected by the renderer.conf from older, working version.
Try to play file. If it will work, problem is renderer conf file, if not, problem is UMS code, ffmpeg/mencoder binaries etc....
There are differences in renderer.confs used so it can be culprit. One is MediaInfo capable, other not (using MimeTypesChanges=xyz)

It still doesn't work for me on the newest version 5.1.3. I will see if I can get some more logs to you and attach them.

I saw though that on the UMS interface, the timer is increasing but the screen on the TV through the Sony Blu Ray player stays black.
