black screen when playing MKV on ps3

Hey helpful people! So I've recently been having issues playing MKV files and I can't figure it out. I've searched the forums and tried a few things, but I really have no idea what I'm doing. Hopefully I've uploaded my debug logs correctly and someone can help me figure out what I'm missing here. I've also tried downgrading to previous versions and even going back to ps3 media server. No dice.

What are the symptoms on the PS3?
Does the screen go black, the play symbol appear for a second or two, and then all black with no sound?
Do the PS3 remote buttons work, i.e. O to go back to the menu?

I have this problem with 1080p mkv files. The files play but the video is black and the audio plays fine.

it sounds like a codec issue, (instructions for the computer how to understand to play the said .mkv video stream)

try installing this

then reinstalling ums, that way where possible it will use it own preferred codecs and codec versions and if that fails will revert to klite *i think*
also you have the trans-coding folder enabled?

UMS never use any installed codecs when AviSynth is not used. Also AviSynth is not recommended for 99,9% users of UMS so don't bother with fighting with codec packs.

You may use UMS logs (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=556) or install https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo in your server to identify the offending files (container, video or audio codec, presence or not of extra streams like subtitles, etc).
