UMS 6.5.0 keeps crashing (Win 7, Java 8)

Post by feralrage »

I updated both my java and my UMS since I started crashing a few days ago on 5.2.3-Java 7. I'm on 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate.

Now, I'm on 6.5.0 that's supposed to use Java 8 (https://www.fosshub.com/Universal-Media ... -Java8.exe). I updated to the latest java version: Java 8 Update 101 (build 1.8.0_101-b13).

I'm watching some anime (Outlaw Star). Some episodes play longer than others but within minutes, UMS crashes (or rather Java crashes). One random episode that crashes it pretty reliably uses MPEG-4 Video (DX50).

I couldn't post a trace log as asked in the sticky because the app crashes so there is no log (that I can see).

Thank you for any help in advance and please let me know if I can provide additional details.

I'll just leave this here for anybody else, maybe it'll help. I have the software that's called Plays.TV, it's a game capturing software that passively captures footage. This was the culprit. As soon as I shut it down, UMS was totally fine and I couldn't crash it. Hopefully this helps somebody else. I've messaged Plays.TV support about it but haven't heard back yet. I've had UMS and Plays.TV together for a while now so it must have been something in a recent update that messed up their interaction.
