UMS

Post by lri41 »

I thought I knew something about computers but with respect to wireless networks etc
I am a babe in the woods and I truly with there was a "user manual" for UMS, Alas
being open source there is not quite understandalbe. I still don't know why
Windows Media Player itself won't play videos or show photo images even
though the Icone and the name of the videos and/or photo images
are listed on my TV but after the thing goes round and a round it
just says "There is nothing to dsiplay or something like that.

Anyway, I found UMS and downloaded and installed in on my
Windows XP and after some trial and error got the videos
up and running. Hurrah !!!

1. Why am I limited adding about 6 video item to the list and
if I added more than that maybe 1 ro so that were listed disappear
so it only show about 6 or so items that i can play on the TV

I also downloaded and installed PMS , however only one will connect
to the TV at a time. I put together a folder of photo's on my
computer to display on the TV and I can do that with PMS or
I assume that I could do the same thing with UMS except I
would have to remove some of the items that are currently
listed.

Is there anyway that I can get UMS to stream movies direct
from the internet.

That's not normal. Please attach your logs to a new post (Logs tab --> Pack debug files)

No, since UMS is free so we have no way to pay for movies.

Thanks for your prompt response, I will respond to getting the log later this week.

May be I am not clear but, what I am talking about is streaming movies or TV
Shows directly from the web via the wireless network show they can be played
on the TV. There are some free movie channels on the web and most
networks allow you to watch their TV shows which people watch on their
mobile devices are all I am trying to do is just watch them on the TV

I have downloaded an old Jack Benny Xmas show , converted it and it
will play via UMS on the TV, I am just trying to bypass the download part
and download and play it as the same time on the TV via UMS.

If there is a free web feed then we may support it. See your WEB.conf file for examples and instructions, which is usually in C:\ProgramData\UMS\

Have you loaded third party codecs on your PC? See http://shark007.net/index.html for a codec pack and simple install instructions. If you are running Windows 7 (or Windows 8) then you may need to disable the MS Video and or Audio foundation services on the "Windows SWAP" tab.

Also, when you add 'video items' to the list, you should be adding high level directories, not specific file names.

SORRY I WAS WRONG ABOUT THIS. May be I did not save them when I added them, I don't know since I find all of
this out by trial and error. But now I have 10 different folders listed and they all show up on the TV now , I did not
try to play or view them all, but enough to know that they will work. So I won't be send the logs at least for that purpose now.

Don't know what you mean by adding "high level directories, not specific file names, This seem to be Linux
terminology . Since Navigation/Share Section specified "Adding Folders, I have put the Mpeg or .Avi movie
or video into a folder and have the folder named and then Add that Folder. The photo were all put into what
Folder which I named Photos to be displayed on TV.

I will look for, download and install the above and also try what Sub Junk suggested .

Really wish I knew all about the rest of stuff that shows up on the various sections of UMS, but enough for now,
Thanks all
