What do you run UMS on (Spec's etc....)

Post by Optimus_prime »

Just thought i'd gauge what types of machines people are using to run UMS on.
As little or great detail as you want to share.

So i'll share my setup:

i7 3770 stock
Asus P8Z77-Pro
16 GB Ram
NVIDIA GTX680
12 TB HDD (Including SSD's, WD/Seagate HDD's)
Highpoint Sata 6Gbps Card (4 ports to run some of those HDD's)
2x 24 inch Samsung Monitors
Windows x64bit

UMS Media Renderer's: UA55D7000 Samsung Tv, UA46ES7100 Samsung Tv, PS3, Raspberry Pi(Running Raspbmc)

If anyone would like more (Network, other stuff) i'm sure you can ask and i'll provide.

I use a store-bought, pre-built laptop.

HP Pavilion g6 series
Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2330M CPU @ 2.20GHz
Dual-core with HyperThreading (4 logical cores)
6GB of ram
Intel HD Graphics 3000 (with Intel Quick Sync Video)
OpenGL 3.1 (Intel(R) HD Graphics Family with 115 ext.)
OpenCL 1.1, CPU compute units:4@2200MHz
Hitachi SATA 750GB (to store streamable content)

Windows 7 64-bit build 7601 [Service Pack 1]

Renderer: Xbox 360 (x2)

Movies are pre-converted using Clone.AD's "rebox.net v1.9.5.0" (11th Jan, 2013) to remux the h264 streams into an MP4 container while the audio gets converted to AAC (low-complexity; stereo).
MP4's have to be split by 4GB parts or it cannot be played/streamed on the Xbox 360 (error is given on the Xbox 360; yet the video will be listed).
Supports up to 1080p without any noticeable problems or issues (for video/audio both).
rebox.NET uses ffmpeg to copy/convert video/audio streams to a compliant MP4 (so custom conversions/copies can be made using ffmpeg for video and own choice of AAC encoder: NeroAAC, FAAC, QAAC/iTunes, Fraunhofer (FhG) AAC...)

I do use an old machine as a dedicated file/media server, and rely on the players' ability to render audio/video properly in any compatible format (PS3, WDTV live, Kalemsoft Player on PlayBook tablet).

So for me, remuxing to a proper container is more important than anything related to transcoding as my server doesn't have the power to, nor I'm interested in upgrading it (c'mon machine, just serve the file with all tracks :-) and also avoid any quality loss by avoiding video transcoding (audio transcoding doesn't tax the CPU much).

Setup:
Asus P4VP motherboard (Socket 478)
2.26GHz single core intel CPU
1GB RAM
Windows 7, Java 1.7
Aggregated 2TB HDD
Headless (no display nor keyboard, all config via RDP)
Use of plugins and remote interfaces everywhere (ie utorrent webui, UMS shutdown plugin, WakeOnLan enabled)

Regards, Wolf
-- UMS serving PS3, WDTV, Samsung H6400 + J5500 and Kalemsoft renderers! (no video transcoding but remuxing accepted :D )

Server has been replaced:
AMD FX8320
16GB ram
Radeon5750
4x1TB RAID5
Win7 64bit
1Gbit LAN via DLink 24port switch

Can stream 1080 to both PS3 and WD in parallel with 5:1:1 quality settings.
Using FFmpeg as primary engine.

I run UMS on my Windows Home Server box:

Core i3 540 at 3 GHz
2 GB RAM
8 TB disk space
Gigabit LAN, but PS3 streaming uses Powerline adapters
WiFi "G"

I pretty much just stream to the PS3, although once in awhile to an iPad or iPhone. It definitely needs more RAM, I've been holding off while trying to figure out what to upgrade WHS v1 to. It's comforting to know that no matter what OS this server ends up with, there will be a version of UMS for it.

Dell PowerEdge 820
Intel Xeon X3230 @ 2.667 GHz
4GB RAM
Windows Server 2012 Standard
Hard Drives
OS - 2x 146GB 15K RPM SAS - RAID 1
Media Storage
7x 1TB - RAID 5
4x 2TB - RAID 5
3x 3TB - RAID 5
1Gbps NIC (full 1Gbps backbone- all Cisco and HP)

This server also runs a 100 slot Mumble server, TVersity (for streaming over the web external to my network), and a 30 slot DayZ server.

I am in the process of replacing all of the 1TB drives, with 3 TB drives as money permits. Also have more RAM on order.

I stream to a Samsung 6420 TV, WD Live TV, iPhone, iPad, Samsung S3, and numerous computers over the web on occasion.
