subtitle bug and possible issue with certain videos
subtitle bug
in UMS i have "Definitely disable subtitles" checked/enabled. if i am on my playstation and decide to watch something i know needs subtitles, i navigate to the "Server settings" folder then to the "Subtitles" folder and attempt to uncheck/disable the option. the only problem is that i have to select the option twice until it works as expected. the first time you select it, it never actually changes the option. for example 'enabled' -> select to change option remotely -> always results in 'enabled' the first time. if i do it again, 'enabled' will then become 'disabled' and toggle back and forth from then on out. sames goes if i have the option defaulted to 'disabled'. if i start UMS and attempt to change the option from the playstation it will go 'disabled' -> select option to changed it -> 'disabled' -> select option to change it -> 'enabled'. not sure why it does this and it really isn't that big of a deal, but it appears there is a bug somewhere.
as i side note, i have also always felt that the wording of this option is weird. either you want to disable subtitles or you want them enabled. why do you need the word "Definitely"? is there some hidden 'maybe disable' subtitles option?
issue with certain videos
in a most likely completely unrelated issue, i have noticed that when i watch certain movies a unique effect can be observed. this effect occurs when the movie being played is a 720 or 1080 widescreen movie and the director tries to get artistic and inserts some 4:3 not hi-def clip to simulate "old" video. whenever this occurs my video always starts skipping. when it is the regular 720p widescreen it has no issues, however, as soon as the transition is made to the 4:3 video, even if it only for a few seconds, the movie begins to skip until there is about 10 seconds of either uninterrupted 4:3 video OR uninterrupted 720/1080p widescreen video again. it is like the transcoder freaks out that the video format has changed (even though i think the format doesn't actually change). it is just what is being displayed on the screen that changes. it is really bizarre and i wish i could describe it better. an example of the widescreen to 4:3 transitions can be found in the opening scenes of Argo as well as several other movies (which, of course, i can't think of now).
anyway, thanks for all the great work. i love UMS. also i have attached the debug logs as requested. if someone has any other questions related to this i will be happy to answer as best i can.

Totally agree.. without having looked in the code it's seems subtitle priority is allover the place atm, it needs some serious attention imo.scubastevesama wrote:as i side note, i have also always felt that the wording of this option is weird. either you want to disable subtitles or you want them enabled. why do you need the word "Definitely"? is there some hidden 'maybe disable' subtitles option?

also, just fyi, the remote subtitle switching problem happens on the Playstation Media Server as well. it didn't use to, but i confirmed that it now does. something must have changed in the shared code a few versions ago.
