Almost nothing working after fresh install of v14.5.0

Hi there,

I installed v14.5.0 today completely from scratch (because of a bug in earlier versions) and now almost nothing works. I'd say about 95% of my library returns either a "Media Server Error: A Network Error Has Occurred" or "Media Type Not Supported", when of course everything worked before. I know there isn't an actual network problem because a handful of the files will still play. I also noticed a ton of java and database errors in the log on initial and subsequent startups. These aren't showing up now when I restart it. The errors I'm seeing with playing media don't show up in the log either (just on-screen), so I'm not sure how helpful the trace will be. Lastly, where nearly all of the files had associated thumbnail images before, now only a small fraction have them. For the rest, the software isn't even generating the default 4 second thumbnail either, as it seems it just can't read those files (or something).

I'm not going to post the trace here as there will be personally identifiable information in it, but will DM to a mod/dev on request. I'm going to uninstall and try an older version to see what happens and will report back here. Stay tuned.

One set of errors, I wish I had grabbed more:

Okay, followed these steps and got these results:

1) no UMS installed and folders deleted from C:\ProgramData and C:\Program Files (x86)
2) installed 14.5.0 with "Clean install" set - this tested broken as described above
3) uninstalled program and deleted all folders
4) installed 14.4.0 with "Clean install" set - this tested broken as described above
5) uninstalled program and deleted all folders
6) installed 14.2.1 with "Clean install" set - this tested WORKING including thumbnails but with the exception of the bug described in viewtopic.php?t=16078 (fixed in 14.5.0)
7) downloaded the installer for 14.3.0 and upgraded to that with "Clean install" not set - this tested broken as described above

I've gone back to a clean install of 14.2.1 and will leave it here so I can at least use the thing. Maybe it's just me. If that's the case, I will live with it. If there are others, I will gladly help in any way I can.

It might be due to a change in a renderer conf file but will need to see logs to see what is happening (see the red section above).
You can send them a DM if you are worried about privacy.

There won't be any identifiable information in there as it only relates to your local network, not you public IP. Unless you have videos showing your name etc then it is understandable. If you want to minimise what shows up then only share a folder with a few problematic videos and don't include the prev logs when packing them.

There was an issue about these errors made the other week and there was a commit to fix it today, but has not been merged yet so it is not in any release.
As 14.5.1 was just released it should be in the next version in a few weeks or so.

These would not be the cause of your problems as is just about retrieving metadata for the web player to display information like actors etc, nothing related to playing videos.
As you are playing on a TV you can just ignore this. If you were not seeing any content on your TV then it would be a database problem and deleting it wold fix this, but you have already done this with a clean install.

If it is working in 14.2.1 or newer (ignoring the quality issue) then post the logs for this one too so I can compare what is different.

Thanks for the reply. When I get some time in the coming days, I will post logs from the working version 14.2.1 and the not working version 14.3.0 (and newer). I think the only really personal information showing up in the logs is that the "first admin" account I made uses my full name, so I will have to rename or replace that with something more generic.

OK that makes sense but I am not sure this will show in the logs as this is stored in the database and I assume it only shows the user ID.
However I have not looked into the access control parts of the logs to verify, I'm guessing it might send the username to the web GUI and this may be logged.

You can disable access control and this should prevent this from showing the username in the logs otherwise changing the username may be best.
