Fighting buffering issue
Hi. I've been using UMS for about 6 months and it worked perfectly on all default settings, but recently I've been getting a buffering issue that happens every minute or so when watching a movie, basically un-watchable. Seems to be worse when there's more action on the screen. I've gone back to different versions of UMS with no difference. Wireless connection from PC to my modem and wired from modem to TV. Driving me nuts. Oddly enough, I have a few folders with half hour shows and they play fine. I have quite a few movies in my main folder, is it possible to have too many files in the folder? Debug file attached, thanks for any help.

Re: Fighting buffering issue
Your logs were not in trace mode so they are not much use. Could you redo them following the instructions in the red section above?
I don't see any errors so I think the problem has to be your network speed as every file being played is being streamed as far as I can tell.
I can see your TV has a speed of 15.5 Mb/s which may not be fast enough for some videos but I can't see what bitrate those videos are using to confirm.
Usually this speed is good enough for most things but 4K content may need much more.
The speed at the time of the test may have been fine as it is not triggering transcoding but if there is any thing else on your computer taking up bandwidth this would slow the data transfer to your TV and cause buffering.
The problem may be with your network setup as it will be bottle-necked by the wireless connection to your computer. Ideally you should have a wired connection from the computer to your router then your other devices can connect to the router wirelessly.

Re: Fighting buffering issue
OK, I think I got the right debug file. I played a movie for about half an hour to recreate the bug, hopefully that was enough.

Re: Fighting buffering issue
I can see that it is streaming fine and that video is only 1080p so it should have no problem being played as far as UMS is concerned so I think it is down to your network bandwidth.
The speed test in this log is a little lower at 13.69 Mb/s so this does suggest it is not always stable but that should be more than enough for this if it does not drop.
As plenty of things can interfere and slow down wifi like the distance away from the access point and things obstructing the signal, try using a wired connection from your computer and see if this improves it. Otherwise see if you can get closer to the router and have a direct line of sight to it.
