Windows app does not launch?

Post by Dude4721 »

I just installed the UMS-Windows-14.10.1-x86_64 build from github, and the app doesn't open. I've tried launching it multiple times from the start menu. Am I missing something?

There is an issue with the new installer not installing the binaries it needs to run on a new system. Running the installer again will fix this.

This has just been fixed and should be in the version just released to patreons.

I have the same issue. Running the installer again (v14.10.1) did not resolve it.
I see the splash screen saying that the GUI is starting, but no GUI.

@binary512 I think this might be something else as if the bin and jre17 folders are not installed then nothing would run, not even the splash screen.
These were the 2 folders that would not get installed the first time, but only when first installing UMS. This did not effect updates of a previous install.

There could be something else stopping UMS from initialising but it should be creating logs that will show the problem.
Could you post C:\ProgramData\UMS\debug.log so I can see what is happening?
Is the web settings working?

Ans: I upgraded from 14.6 to 14.10.1 and that's when the GUI no longer launched. By "GUI", I mean the older graphical user program, not the web-based browser GUI.

Re: Could you post C:\ProgramData\UMS\debug.log so I can see what is happening?
Ans: I have posted the debug.log file.

Re: Is the web settings working?
Ans: Yes, the web settings appear to be working fine.
Thanks.

Nothing looks odd in the logs and since the web settings are working correctly UMS is running.

Usually when UMS runs does it open the Java GUI for you?

If you right click the tray icon and select settings(old) does it show?

Ans: Yes

Re: If you right click the tray icon and select settings(old) does it show?
Ans: The tray icon does not show up after the upgrade to v14.10.1. And it is not "hidden" by Windows. Prior to the update, the tray icon always showed up.

That is strange. Are you on Win 11?
I'm new to Win11 myself and found that it would hide icons, but it should show when clicking the ^ in the task bar.
I'm still getting used to the OS UI changes.

Since UMS is actually running you can put it in trace mode to get more information and use the web UI to pack the logs.

First you will need to quit UMS and manually edit C:\ProgramData\UMS\UMS.conf to change

Code: Select all

log_level =
to

Code: Select all

log_level =TRACE
Then you can pack the logs from the tools menu (View logs > options > pack debug files) after running UMS again. This link should take you to the right place.

Note there is a very minor bug in this version where you save the logs it will add "_" to the start and end to the zip filename.
This has recently been fixed but you can just rename before posting them.

Ans: Yes, I am on Win 11 24H2. There is no carat (^) in the task bar hiding any icons.

Log file attached for your review.

I just found the solution. The Windows setting for Personalization -> Taskbar
was set to OFF for OpenJDK Platform Binary. This prevented the icon from showing in the Taskbar even though the process was running.
I don't know how or why it was turned off, but it must have happened about the same time as upgrading UMS to the most recent version.

Thank you for your assistance. Sorry for the inconvenience.
