Just ran into an MKV playback problem

Post by Gareee »

With the latest build....
True.Blood.S05E07.720p.HDTV.x264-EVOLVE
(The first teevee usenet post is good. the rest are passworded repost crap.)

The show starts fine, but during the credits a few minutes in, the audio starts doing some spooky oddness.

It sounds like the audio is running at 1/10th of the speed it should be. I've never heard anythng like this before!

I tried restarting the server, and using the mencoder alternate sync mothod, but nothing corrected the playback.
The file does play fine on the pc.

I finally re encoded the file into a mp4 with default handbrake settings, and that played back fine using UMS, but there might be an issue worth looking into on it.

I have the same problem. Also effected 720p of Newsroom, and 720p Game of Thrones. I've actually had this issue before too on older versions of PMS. I reverted to version 1.3.0, and that fixed the problem. UMS is running on a Windows 7 machine, streaming to a PS3.

I have this exact problem with updates since UMS 1.3.0 unfortunatly I don't have 1.3.0 to fall back to.

It will play using the ffmpeg decoder however, but all others do have this slowed music.

It happened to me on a recent episode of true blood and also on an old episode of boardwalk empire both .mkv's. I have been able however to play a moive .mkv normally using mencoder , which I found an odd blip.

I have to say it is also happening with the recent releases of PMS too.

I am also using WIn 7 x64 streaming to a PS3 and have have no issues before with UMS

I just ran into it again with this week's trueblood evolve post.

I'll just re encode it with handbrake's default settings again for the temp fix.

I also noticed that the latest warehouse 13 720p mkv also will not play, giving the "unsupported format" error.
(It plays fine on the pc, and the thumb shows up, until whatever playback error kicks in.)

The issue seems to be with new releases.. maybe theres a new encoder option not yet functional in UMS? (I recall an issue like this with PMS a while back.)

The problem is that some networks are for some unknown reason airing previews in stereo audio, then the show switches to 5.1 and MEncoder doesn't handle it when the audio track switches the number of channels half way through. tsMuxeR handles it though

You can workaround this issue by telling UMS to use 2 channels maximum, and hopefully we will see a fix for it soon. It is out of our hands since it is a MEncoder bug, not a UMS bug.

For some reason I never got a bot notification about this.

I'll stick with re encoding them for now, since I'd rather have 5.1 if possible.
