I have had a similar issue with the java heap space error in V6.8 as well. The one I PM'd you about. I PM'd you back a few days ago but you haven't read it yet.
The issue happens in V7 much quicker than in V6.8.
I will turn off the cache in V6.8 and see what the outcome is. Maybe with the cache off in V6.8 will stop UMS crashing every couple of days due to the java heap space error.

I have found if I turn off caching (use_cache = false) in V6.8, it has stopped V6.8 from crashing with the Java Heap Space error as well.
