That's a good point, we should rename it! :)
From PMS versions it was by default disabled, until SubJunk versions made it enabled by default and I all the time disable it by default because when enabled, it has side effects (A/V out of sync for many files).
There are also many posts mentioning it that disabling alternate sync fixes A/V sync problems 8-)
What I remember, enabling it adds -mc 0 -noskip which disables automatic sync algorithm in MEncoder so files with audio delay present are always out of sync. It is also because in past MEncoder (not sure if it was fixed, I know there was also bug when using -s 0 and -s <>0, one of them ignored audio delay) totally ignored audio delay when these params were used so I never used A/V Alternate Sync because lot of my files have some audio/video delay.
So for me it is "alternate" mechanism which I never used so for me and others renaming can be misleading

I can confirm that 3.4.1 cured the issue I was having with the server needing a manual restart on occasion.

BTW, where is that new alt ac3 decoding option setting at?

Of some reason, both 3.4.0 and now the 3.4.1 creates the same sympton for me,
(viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1587&start=10#p9394)

File xxxx could not be parsed. It will be hidden

This occurs for every single movie-file I've got.
I does not occur with 3.3.0.
So, it didn't happen before update, and error goes away by downgrading,
so, something's changed. Anyone with any guess to what/why this could be ?

additonal tests / info reg 3.4.1 vs 3.3.0,

Did a clean install and removed previous directorys.
Still same issue; debug.log shows all files as;
"could not be parsed. It will be hidden""

This does NOT seems to be related at all to any specific type of files,
.mkv, .avi, .divx, .mpg, .mp4 etc... = all "could not be parsed. It will be hidden"

Clean up - reinstall 3.3.0 again with clean install option
= no files reported as "could not be parsed. It will be hidden"

The only thing I can think off, which do NOT change between me running 3.3.0 or 3.4.x is that
all files are on external storage connected through Windows.
Security/ownership/rights, etc is the admin which also is the current user.
