So {No encoding] is supposed to be shown for files that the device supports directly? On my Sony Bravia 5500 it never works, this means the renderer conf lists unsupported formats?

[No Encoding] isn't explicitly show on the main list when the format is supported directly (just the name of the media file without any engine attached -ie [ffmpeg]). But you may also force playing with that entry in the TRANSCODE folder.
