What's the buffer doing when everyone else suffers this issue? Mine's full, which is odd.

I'll help out. I'm just trying to remember which points of the movie it did the stuttering at. Do you need a trace debug?

EDIT: Well, I tried at the few parts I could remember and it's not happening. I have cleared my cache on my PC since watching the movie and making the change to 70. I guess that could have been why I was seeing it go up so high. I needed to clear my cache after updating. On the upside I noticed FFmpeg is much faster when I just did some tests a few mins ago. I think I'll be using that from now on instead.

Anyways, for anyone that still wants to use Mencoder I recommend lowering the quality setting a bit and also toying with the max bandwidth setting as well.

Yeah it would be really useful to get a debug log from the last version that worked, and the first version that had the bug (so I guess that was 2.3.0 and 2.4.0)

Well I had the issue for awhile now (if I leave the program at default settings). It was happening before 2.3.0. I just solved it by adjusting Mencoder/bandwidth settings until I didn't see it happening. I've had to do it with PS3 Media Server as well. I think it's just an issue with Mencoder being slower than FFmpeg and also bandwidth.

Yeah it has always been a problem with every media server (I used to have it with TVersity too) but the thing I'm looking for is what (if anything) made it get worse after 2.4.0. It doesn't seem to be affecting my installation, I tried another 20+ 1080p videos earlier today and couldn't get any stuttering to happen, so hopefully someone who does have it will chime in

Did you make changes to the default UMS.conf that are needed by 2.4.0+? I've been doing upgrade installs for awhile (but decided to do a fresh install the other day) and I noticed that there were more settings inside of the default UMS.conf that I had before. Do you think this could be the issue?

I don't think anything has changed in there between 2.3.0 and 2.4.0 that would cause this

Maybe you could change the Mencoder defaults in a future build and see if that helps people?

Maybe but I would rather find the root cause instead of masking it with lower quality settings
