Running W7 Ultimate x64
Just downloaded and installed UMS 5.0.0 as a first time user.
Added my media folder to the shared folders setting and hit the scan button just as stated in this thread.
Result was also the same as depicted: it started to scan my whole PC, starting with my C:\.
Totally unexpected and nasty.
So, is this a regression? Or was it never fixed?
After exiting UMS and restarting, the scan button does what it's supposed to do: scan my media dir.
Didnt test if hitting the save button first also would do the trick, sorry. But if so, the UI (e.g. pop-up help text on the scan button) should point out that you'd have to do so.

Yeah you do have to hit save when you want to save a setting 
Anyway you don't have to scan folders since we do it in realtime so I wouldn't worry about using it
