Re: UMS/Sony/VLC MKV file freezing
Thats good news. I only made a few changes to the supported formats so probably doesn't cover everything. If you have the manual for your TV it should list all the codecs it supports then you can use that to update the conf yourself. I gave that config a higher priority so it will load instead of the one included with UMS.
Did you try anything with transcoding? It would be good to get that working properly for when you have a file that your TV doesn't support. To force transcoding use the TRANSCODE folder and experiment with the various options.
If you get all that updated working correctly could you post your conf so it could be added to future versions of UMS?

Re: UMS/Sony/VLC MKV file freezing
mik_s,
I'll work on that in the near future, but frankly I don't currently use/watch anything but the MKV's I've been downloading for years. I do have a reference for the Sony website that I'll use to do some tweaks to the conf. As to priority, for simplicity sake after I discovered this feature, I've gone in to UMS and deselected everything but the renderer conf you sent me, so it's the only one even looked at for loading purposes.
Thanks so much again for getting me rolling; I had tried to limp along with my PS3 which I'd sourced through for so many years, starting with the PS3 Media Server, but it finally died on me this past week, and when I discovered the TV could be used, I was happy not to have to go out and by a PS4 or 5 to keep the media center running!!
Ciao

If your PS3 has died from the dreaded YLOD, there is a good chance to revive it if you are handy with a soldering iron. I still use my PS3 as my main media player, but mine is hacked with custom firmware and I use Movian instead of the built in media player.
However looks like your TV has better support for more modern codecs like h265 so best stick with that
