How to disable embedded subs and use external .srt

Since my Samsung ES tv does not support embedded S_HDMV/PGS subs I would like to disable them in order to use the external .srt subtitles file. Is this possible at all with UMS? I have the UMS 2.6.5 version.
I've tried using the <movie_name>.en.srt and also one of the possibilities in the TRANSODE folder which does not require transcoding on my PC. Both does not work.
