VLC Transcoding Engine missing on Mac OS?

Hi all,

I just installed UMS because it seems to have more features and better stability than PS3 Media Server. Anyway, I noticed that VLC doesn't show as an option for a transcoding engine. Is this by design or can I add it myself? If so, how is this done? I prefer it over mencoder, just a personal preference.

i think all you have to do is make sure VLC is installed and then enable VLC in UMS.

Then move it up in the Transcoding list to be first, buy clicking on the green up arrows.

On my system here, if I enable (and attempt to use) VLC, the traffic cone icon will flash open on the computer, then immediately close out again and my Samsung TV will say that it can't play the file. VLC 2.1.2 Ricewind. OS X 10.8.4. Thanks for any ideas.
