UMS 3.0.0-a5 PS3 Jumpy configuration help

I've been using UMS for a couple of years now and it works fine for server based videos of all formats and subtitles including transcoding for flash and mkv files.

My problem is when I try to use any of the plugins I always get the "content cannot be played" message.

I've tried channels before and was never successful in getting it running. I could see the sample photos but never videos except for the TED talks.

I would like to use Jumpy to be able to get some of the TV stations and live streaming sites (which are generally flash). I don't need the youtube feature since it is built into the PS3.

So what I would like is a general guide and/or links to how to configure UMS with the PS3 to be able to support these types of sites. I've spent like a week before, and off and on another few days, and just recently another couple of days reading this forum and other related forums, wikis and guides, and I'm just confusing myself. I don't have a clue where to start. The only thing I more or less understand is that flash streaming would have to be transcoded by something to be able to display on the PS3.

So far I've successfully installed jumpy which install XBMC while it was at it. It shows up as an installed plugin and loads. I then tried to install PMSencoder (jar file) which failed at broke the installation so I've removed it. I can then browse the jumpy folder. That's all I can do so far.

I don't even know for sure if this configuration will work. So I'm just flailing around reading threads that are 2-3 years in length.

So any help, suggestions, links, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Some kind of baseline configuration that others have used successfully with the PS3 would be great and then I can go from there as a starting point. My principle goal is firstrowsports.eu live streaming. So if there's another way that's better I'm all in.

Thanks

PS, I have a P4 with 2GB Ram. So I can't run XBMC natively as a server in place of UMS, I don't have enough horsepower.

Hi mistaknly,
  • Do you see video items in any jumpy folders?
  • Do you see video items when browsing the Web folder? If so, do they play?
  • Attach a set of TRACE logs showing navigation to the end of both a Web and a jumpy folder, including attempted playback if possible. Use TED for the logs if you can since it allows a 1:1 comparison:
    • Install the xbmc TED Talks addon from the xbmc.org repo.
    • Go to Web > TED > TEDTalks (video) and try to play something if you can.
    • Go to Jumpy > [xbmc] TED Talks > Newest Talks likewise.
  • If TED is working, try another addon that isn't (but check it first in xbmc to make sure it's not broken).

Mistakenly,

You're not alone, I felt for this scam as well. I've spent countless hours trying to figure out what I may doing wrong and it's not me - and it's not you. It's also not a coincidence that this application requires unnecessary fiddling and testing. It's also NOT a coincidence that many end users have been relying on posts as far back as 2009. If this were a true valid source initiative the application wouldn't be at "3.0.0.-a5" 2013. I ASSURE you and all the folks reading, you will get continue to receive "CONTENT CANNOT BE PLAYED" no matter the renderer, and blame will continue to be the source. If the source is mostly invalid, why bother? What is true initiative? Yours truly, Skeptical.
