server without app

I just started using UMS, so I apologize if this is obvious, but is there a way to keep the server running without having the app open? I'd like to have it running whenever my computer is on, without having to open the app every time.

i know that in the windows version you can run as a service. I'm not so sure if there is a MAC equivalent of "running as a service" option...
