Java Issues with OS X 10.9/10.8/10.7

I just installed new OS on my iMac, 10.9, and found that Universal Media Server is not working. I downloaded latest 3.0.0.b2 version, but still no luck. Does anyone else have the same issue? Do we know when we can expect new release that will be supported on new OS X?

Do me a favor markobm, go into the 'Other Releases' section of Sourceforge and try the UMS 3.0.0.b1 Java 7 file and check if that works. You do need to get the Java 7 Binarys off the Oracle website here.

Note: Mavericks may not come with Java 6 or 7 installed. They have disabled the java 6 plugin in the latest Java for OS X 2013-005 update. This will affect nearly all OS-X Versions (10.7 / 10.8 and above) if you update to this Apple Java Version. Don't Blame us Blame Apple, or try installing Java 7 and use my java 7 build (Big Note: OS-X 10.7.3 and Above Only)

I tried version 3.0.0.b2 with this configuration (clean installation, no previous releases):

Build: 3cf9c71bb (2013-10-22)
Java: Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 1.7.0_45 64-bit by Oracle Corporation
OS: Mac OS X 64-bit 10.9
Encoding: UTF-8
Memory: 683 MB
Language: en

it works for me but external subtitles doesn’t show.

After the installation of the beta version I did the same with official release 2.6.5 downloading java 6 as needed, keeping both versions at the same time.

I retried beta version and external subtitles worked fine.

Latest test: I uninstalled the official version and the beta kept working fine.

I didn't want to start a new thread as my problem is the same.
I installed UMS 3.6.3 yesterday and it worked as advertised. But today it wouldn't start. It was reporting a java error.
I did the earlier suggested reinstall java and restart computer routine and it still isn't starting. Same error message.
I downloaded the 4.0.0.a1 beta and installed it. But when I started it, the OS said the app is damaged.
I've since removed it from my system.

As I am now registered to this forum, I will monitor it for news of any work around or update to the app that finally fixes this java problem.
As it did work well the first day, I'm hoping to that a remedy will be coming soon.

UMS hangs intermittently (spinning beachball requiring force-quit)
Mac OSX 10.10.1
16GB RAM
UMS 4.3.1
Java version 8 update 25 build 1.8.0_25-b17

log attached - shows java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space

Billfish,

I'm sure when you search this forum for 'JavaHeapSpace' problem , you can find a quite simple fix.

I had the same problem in the past , but the 'fix' provided is doing great.(nonetheless you have to 'fix' after every next update, but it's pretty easy to do.

I'm running UMS on my Mac with nearly the same configuration as yours with the only difference of using only 12gb RAM , but it runs flawless.

Good luck.
