Why is UMS transcoding?

I have a Panasonic TC-P55ST60 which supports the AVI format and extension, so my question reverts back to the subject of this topic. When I chose the folder of the videos I want to watch, which are .avi, I get the [!] icon and there is the transcode folder with the videos. However...there have been occasions where I will access same folder and the [!] icon is not there, and the video is available to play. I'm not even sure if this is reproducible. It's completely random...I think. But i did upload the log.
Also, is it better to demux than transcode? Is that the correct question? Lol
