Seek support for renderers (VLC and Firestick)

Hi,
I am looking to play videos on my Amazon Firestick. I have both Kodi and VLC. I can play videos but my issue is when I use subtitles, the transcoded video is not able to seek. It shows as zero seconds and the option is not even there...even though the video plays perfect. I have tried to use external subtitles and force it to stream(using external subtitles and stream extensions). In that case, the video plays but no subtitles.
This is also an issue on my Sony Bravia (stock video player doesnt work well either...) using the VLC player. I would appreciate any help! Let me know if you need logs for this.
I am open to using other (free) apps on the Firestick that work with DLNA and allow seek with transcode...or support external subs.
