UMS not seeing xbox/ps4 and their not seeing UMS!
Hello,
Hope someone can help me with this and apologises if it has already been addressed in an earlier thread. So i have used UMS for a while now on my PC streaming to my xbox one. Occasionally, it has had issues and last time this was solved my an IP address change. However since I have had a new router installed UMS now cant pick up any of my devices including my xbox and PS4. I have done the usual, turned off firewall, checked media streaming in on, reinstalled UMS etc but no luck. I have attached a log for you guys to take a look at.
Thank you for any help you can offer, means a lot.
Jamie

If the problem started when you replaced your router, I'd say that the problem is with your router
A common problem is if some of your devices/UMS are on wireless and some are on wired network. If you have this configuration, you must make sure that your router is running in "bridge"/"transparent" mode. If not, UPnP discovery messages, which are required for UMS and the renderers to find each other, can't travel between the wired and the wireless networks.

Hello again,
Problem still continues. I use an EE smarthub router and I've looked into the settings but there is no option to turn on 'bridge' or 'transparent' mode. UPnP is on if that is any help. I have a feeling this is going be to something really straight forward but I just can't see it.
Please help!
Thank you,
Jamie

I had the same issue at first... I changed the router and it went away, but I think that if you can reset your router and reconfigurate it entirely, it may help.
Re: UMS not seeing xbox/ps4 and their not seeing UMS!
I know nothing about "EE smarthub" (which looks to be a branded item anyway). Not all routers supports bridge/transparent mode, in which case it's impossible to get UPnP to work across wired/wireless networks. Most routers do support this though, although the exact name they use for the function might vary.
Since it seems that this is an ISP supplied router, I guess you'll have to call them and ask how to get it in "bridge" mode. If that's not possible, either switch ISP or be without UMS or similar DLNA/UPnP AV media server.

Sound like it should work to me, I didn't know how to switch on the "bridge" mode on my previous router but set up the new one like this...
Re: UMS not seeing xbox/ps4 and their not seeing UMS!
It doesn't matter if you "put" the previous router in "bridge" mode or not, what matters is how it behaved. Maybe your old router was in "bridge" mode by default. The only thing that matters is that it forwards multicast packets between the wired and the wireless networks. If it does, this works - if it doesn't, UMS won't work and neither will any other UPnP AV/DLNA server.
How you choose to solve it is up to you. As I told you from the start, this ONLY applies if you have UMS on wired and the renderers on wireless, or vice versa. If you put everything either on the wireless or the wired network, the router isn't involved at all and "bridge mode" is irrelevant.

Take @nadahar 's advice. Routers provided by the ISPs are usually limited in functionality. I'd faced the same issue. Since then, I've been using an E900 router directly attached to ISP provided router.jibbyreznor wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2019 1:23 am Hello again,

Thank you for your replies.
The situation remains the same. I have both laptop xbox and ps4 on wireless. UMS has a a stop sign in the bottom left corner when I start it up if that helps. Im 110% sure this is not a firewall issue. Any other ideas? Thank you,
Jamie

Re: UMS not seeing xbox/ps4 and their not seeing UMS!
There must be some misunderstanding here. The issue is pretty clear, it won't work unless your router lets the traffic through. This means that you can: Move UMS to be on the wireless network, get another router or live without a media server.
Edit: If what you mean to say when listing "laptop" is that UMS is running on said laptop, and UMS is configured to use the wireless network interface, then the problem must be something else. I find that hard to believe as long as the problem started when the router was replaced though.
