[Solved] PS3 renderer doesn't detect after modem change

I sold my cable modem that I used to connect to internet with (because I'm moving to an ethernet building), and I put my old VDSL2 Zyxel to act as a network sharing device in the meantime for PS3. But it didn't work, any idea why?

I can get internet connection going to the PS3 when I enable USB sharing from my mobile phone on the PC, so clearly there is a working connection between the PS3 and PC. The PS3 just can't be found as a renderer in UMS.

I disabled Windows firewall for all networks but it didn't do the trick.

A couple of obvious things to check:

1) If you use both wired and wireless network, and UMS and the PS3 are on different types, you need to make sure that the router is in "brige" mode to allow the communication to flow between the wired and the wireless networks.
2) The IP address of the computer running UMS has probably changed, so check the network configuration on the "General" tab and make sure that the correct network interface is used.

Yeah logs show it only detects the PC's Killer NIC and IP when the phone USB sharing is disconnected.

But the PS3 renderer isn't found with the correctly detected network and IP, when the only connection is just the offline cable going from PC to PS3. Does that rule out 1)?

I'm sorry but I don't understand your description. I don't think you should include the mobile phone sharing in the mix, try to get it to work without it. UMS and the PS3 should work just fine "on their own" without internet access.

Do you use wired network including a router, or do you have a cable connected directly between the PC and the PS3. You need for them to have IP addresses assigned, and normally the router runs DHCP which will assign IP addresses to devices. If you don't have this, you'll have to configure the IP addresses of your PC and the PS3 manually before they can "see each other".

The cables go to the VMG1312 router from PS3 and PC, so they're connected through router. For some reason it doesn't work, I guess Windows fails to configure the whole thing it since there is no internet connection coming from the router... since this very modem as well worked just fine before, no changes have been made to it.

The router does have a 3G USB backup feature, maybe I could set up the phone tethering through it and see how Windows reacts.

This has nothing to do with an internet connection. If they are both connected to the router with wires, you should look at the configured IP addresses (both at the PS3 and the UMS PC).

I have a similar setup. I don't have proper broadband internet instead use a wireless hotspot on my phone and I use my old BT homehub router to connect my PC to my PS3, PS4 and TV via Ethernet. One of the issues I had was the PC was prioritising the router for internet instead of the mobile hotspot but I was able to change the priority of the network adapters to use the hotspot instead.

However I had the same problem of not being able to detect any renderers in UMS when using the hotspot. I found that UMS would use the the whichever network interface that had priority so it couldn't see anything connected wired. All I had to do was to select my wired adaptor in the "Force Networking on Interface" in the General Settings tab and everything was detected again.

If that doesn't help maybe try a factory reset of your router if it is old, its configuration may have been changed in the past that might be blocking some of the ports used for communication with UMS.

Got it running.

Windows troubleshoot managed to enable a DHCP setting on the wired network, after which the IP of my PC controller turned into NAT-based 192.168... Forcing that IP in UMS makes it detect the PS3.

I also couldn't access the router setting page before windows did that.
