Hi. I have had to migrate a large amount of files to a bigger external powered HDD. It is usb3 plugged into pc. I can stream from pcs own HDD and even when pc goes to sleep the films still play but from the external usb the file stops playing after a short amount of minutes - last one was about 13 mins. Even when I then went to pc and ensured all was ok I resumed the file and it stopped again after 7 minutes. File works ok if moved to pc.
Is there a way to stop the external HDD from sleeping?

Not from UMS' side. You must configure this in your OS, using "power settings" or similar. On Windows at least, you can specify which individual part (GPU, NIC, HDDs etc) that should or should not be allowed to sleep.

Try a program called "Prevent Disk Sleep". I found it on MajorGeeks dot com
