streaming 3D mp4 to playstation 3?

It seems that a 3d bluray ripped to mp4 with 2 videostreams doesn't play in 3D to the PS3, it seems only one of the videostreams is streamed to the PS3 showing it in 2D, am I correct about that?
Is there a way to stream a 3D movie to the PS3 other than reencoding it into 1 1920x1080 stream with SBS or OU?
