Philips HTS5593

Hi,

I'm having trouble with UMS streaming to my Philips HTS5593.
I've tried setting up a renderer config but the results I get appear to be inconsistent.
I'd tried downloading a Philips net tv config from here and changed the renderer search terms to match, but constantly get "unsupported video format" errors on the renderer.
Reviewing the UMS debug log hasn't really got me anywhere and I'm not totally confused.

As far as I can see from the manual it should play the media I have.
I've tried to follow the faq on setting up a renderer, but aren't getting anywhere.

Device spy shows the following:

Try the config I wrote for the HTS9520/12 posted on the PS3 Media Server forum:
http://www.ps3mediaserver.org/forum/vie ... 15&t=12369

The HTS5593 has according the manual support for 1920x1080 resolution with all supported media.
Edit the config "Supported =" lines by removing the "#" as noted, to give native support for these files.

Maybe also other changes are necessary before your player works properly.

Thanks Leroy, unfortunately I'd already come across that thread and have been using that file as a base.
With it, some stuff plays but not everything that should.

You chose

Code: Select all

TranscodeVideo = H264TSAC3
but not allowed it in Supported formats

Code: Select all

# --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# Both mime types works with mpegts: video/vnd.dlna.mpeg-tts , video/mpeg
# The HTS9520 gives a TSF addition to mpegts files.
# eac3 is not supported.
# =====================ok====ok===ok==?=====ok===ok==ok==ok==ok==?======?====
#Supported = f:mpegts v:mpeg2|h264|vc1|mp4 a:lpcm|ac3|dts|mpa|aac|truehd|dtshd m:video/mpeg
Change the line to

Code: Select all

Supported = f:mpegts v:mpeg2|h264|vc1|mp4 a:lpcm|ac3|dts|mpa|aac|truehd|dtshd m:video/mpeg
and test it.

Thanks Valib,

After making that change it didn't appear to have made any difference. I then restarted the server, tested, deleted 'resume' files and restarted and my test file works.
I've now turned off video resume in the settings.

Unfortunately it's not 100% yet. I just tried playing one file and it attempted it, then several others automatically before playing a different file all together.
e.g.

Code: Select all

01-25 13:20:18 Started playing BSG-S4E1&2-Razor.m4v on your Philips HTS
01-25 13:20:24 Started playing BSG-S4E03-HeThatBelievethInMe.m4v on your Philips HTS
01-25 13:20:29 Stopped playing BSG-S4E1&2-Razor.m4v on your Philips HTS
01-25 13:20:31 Stopped playing BSG-S4E03-HeThatBelievethInMe.m4v on your Philips HTS
01-25 13:20:34 Started playing BSG-S4E04-SixOfOne.m4v on your Philips HTS
I tried playing "He that believeth in me" not razor, and the one that actually played was "six of one".

Attached is the trace level log in case it helps.

After making changes in renderer.conf the restart of the UMS is needed. What is the setting in you Philips TV - "play all videos in the folder"? It seems to me that the TV is automatically asking for the next video to play when the current is not recognized or so. If it is true please set the TV to play only video which is asked.
Also please set

Code: Select all

hide_transcode_folder =false
in UMS.conf, restart UMS and go to the TRANSCODE folder, choose folder e.g. "He that believeth in me" and try to play each of all offered combination in the folder to check what is playable and what not. And please send Packed debug files not only debug.log. Thanks

EDIT: I don't know anything about Philips TV's but you wrote
I just tried playing one file and it attempted it, then several others automatically before playing a different file all together.
It was really playing or you assume it only from debug? On my Panasonic it works in the same way because there is a preview window and when I am browsing the folder to choose the video I want to play all videos highlited during "cursor" movement are started to preview and then stopped. So it could be a standard feature of your TV or may have something to do with the TV setting.

I've done a clean install (also added Leroy's renderer config again) in case I'd screwed something up as some things were playing, and then for some unknown reason stopped working.

I ran through the options under #transcode# as suggested, and none of them played. Some (AC3) gave an error (unsupported video format) quickly, while the others (AAC) the transcode buffer filled to 180MB, then sat for a while before stopping. The renderer on these ones seemed to just sit there waiting for it to start.

I've attached the full trace level debug pack from this process.

The renderer also doesn't appear to have any option to only play the selected file.
Just selecting the files on the renderer appears to cause UMS to begin transcoding as you suggested.

Okay,

So I've installed version 3.4.0 of UMS, and reencoded a whole bunch of test clips with various settings using HandBrake and discovered that my player can play MPEG4 video, but not H.264 if it has a 'variable framerate', which seems to be the default, and what I encoded all my stuff with.

Is there anyway of setting up UMS/renderer configs to work around this, or am I just going to have to reencode everything with a constant framerate?

So I never found a way of playing VFR video on the HTS5593, but found a better solution; returning it and getting a Samsung model instead.
This solution was far quicker and easier than attempting to get UMS working with the Philips player, though I noticed the default allshare renderer config doesn't list .m4v under streamextensions so they wouldn't play by default. Perhaps this could be changed in the default configs, assuming it doesn't break other allshare devices?
