Subtitle problem with .MKV videos

Hi
I use a Samsung BD-E5700 as a DLNA client. UMS has no problem streaming videos in .avi format but when I try to stream .mkv videos I never get the .srt subtitles on the screen. I use the default setup for the subtitles because .avi movies works flawless. The UMS is the latest version 3.3.0. I tried .mkv movies with and without transcoding but same result. It think it is not an issue of the Bluray player because using Serviio with the same movies I get the subtitles on the screen.
Any clue how to solve it? I would like to switch to UMS but the issue with the .mkv movies is a problem for me.
Thank a lot for your help and anyway UMS is a fine piece of software!
