No subwoofer/bass with MP3?

I've been using UMS for movies through my PS3 happily for years...
Just recently, I tried using it for my music (stereo mp3's), and I noticed that it bypasses my subwoofer completely. (Obviously, it sends just a stereo stream)...
I remember on the old XBMC (7 years ago or so), there was a setting to 'output to all speakers', which would basically send the mp3 stream out on all channels - the subwoofer would be fully engaged, and it would almost be simulated surround for the music..
Short of changing to a simulated surround mode on my receiver, is it possible to do something like this with UMS/ps3 natively?
