Installation Fail Issue/Missing JRE 7.x(not true). Help XMX
Environment.
Windows XP (most recent/last Build).
JRE: 7.0
UMS File Version 3.6.2
Hello,
I'm having an issue with installation. UMS will install "properly"---all seems well. (it downloaded/installed AVISynth without issue).
Post Install (Post Reboot,etc.etc.) I go to lauch the server.
It errors with
"UMS uses Java 7 Runtime Environment, it will now be downloaded and installed". I click "OK"
(I've made sure *ALL* my blockers are off...Firewall/Peerblock,etc.
Errors out with: Download failed HTTP/1.0 403 forbidden
I've manually installed (the newest of the old 7's 7.11)--No luck
Tried with the (literal) 7.0 version.(found on FileHippo)-No Luck
Both versions, after I install the JRE. I rerun the UMS Installer clicking "Clean" to install.
All to no avail.
(each time reinstalling UMS--and checking "CLEAN" (one tme tried without checking clean).
I keep the default---"Maximum Memory" number---should I reduce this? (my machine 768 is the "Maximum"
Other steps I've tried:
"Just tossing a football"--I put "JAR" in my Pathtext Variable (doesn't seen to help---will reboot and try).
*OR* is there a way I can "Point" UMS to where the JRE is? I watch the installer, it is installing jar files, etc.
Also, I have other Apps that depend entirely on Java to run (IE--Crash Plan Plus). No errors with CPP.
Suggestions? I suppose a solution with a way to "force point" to the JRE. ??????
Do I need a special Variable/or PATH for the JRE to work with UMS? in an X36 environment?
Thank you!

PS--RIGHT BEFORE I was to hit send...I went digging in the UMS Folders. Noted the Batch File....
I see it says.

Universal Media Server
---------------------
In case of troubles with UMS.exe, this shell will launch UMS in a more old fashioned way
You can try to reduce the Xmx parameter value if you keep getting "Cannot create Java virtual machine" errors...
Last word: You must have java installed ! http://www.java.com
------------------------------------------------
Press any key to continue . . .

How do I change the Xmx parameter value????? (is this the issue?)
Thanks!!!

Re: Installation Fail Issue/Missing JRE 7.x(not true). Help
I will try, download (32 bit version) is on its way.
However I do have a working Java environment as I use it for some development work, so I can't imagine that yet another installation will help.
Tried UMS 3.6.2 and 4.0.0-a1 with identical results.
UPDATE: it did work however
Maybe it needed a 32 bit java version.

Not sure what the issues may have been, but you were using an outdated version. 7u45 and above should work fine with UMS. Also i only use 64bit Java so maybe trying to manually download it off the same link i provided (removing 32bit)
