Ps3 won't recognize UMS?

Hey all,

SO i recently moved into a new apartment and cannot get my UMS to be read on my PS3. It wont recognize any media players i have tried. Right now we have our internet through an Arris modem from WOW which is connected to a Belkin N150 that broadcasts our wireless internet.

I turned on sharing on my computer and enabled the media server option on my ps3. I've also disabled the firewall on both the Arris and the Belkin, as well as my computer. I looked up my ps3's IP on the DHCP and it shows up as "unknown". I tried to ping the ps3 via my computer and it failed. I also tried to do it with all other active connections on the router and none of them worked either. I'm pretty sure its a problem with the router not allowing devices on the network to communicate, but i'm at a loss of how to troubleshoot it.

I'd appreciate any help you guys could give. If needed, i can post log details or any other type of information that might make this easier to figure out.

Thanks!

EDIT: I found that my router had an option "Block ICMP Pinging". I disabled this and now my ps3 can be pinged and my UMS can see my windows media server (from my computer) but the PS3 still cant detect anything.

EDIT 2: Just restarted UMS and it wont detect anything. Also, now i can't ping the PS3 from my computer again. I'm at a loss for what could be causing this.

1) What is the IP address of your ps3?
2) What is the IP address of your computer with UMS installed?

Are both machines on the same network? UPNP discovery services on UDP 1900 doesn't work when server and client are in different segments.

Yes they are both on the same wireless network. The ip for PS3 ends in .6 and the computer is .4.

OK here's a few things to try:

1) Check your subnet mask, I would expect it to be 255.255.255.0 on both your PC and on the PS3

2) Disable any unused network adapters on your PC, If you're using Windows 7 Open the Network and Sharing Center, then in the left of that window click, Change adapter settings, this window should show you all of the current network adapters that you have, right click and select "Disable" for each of the adapters that you are not using.

3) In the Network and Sharing Center, check that the Network Location is set to "Home Network" (You should see the image of a of a house)
