I browsed the forum and the website, but couldn't find any Beta builds.
Are they available to anyone? If so, where?

I think you do your own beta build via the UMSBuilder.

There's an specific forum for UMSbuilder at viewforum.php?f=25
Also you can use forums' search functionality to capture other comments about UMSbuilder around.
