Subtitles disappear to fast

Post by johngcp »

O.k. so I'm trying to watch an anime, and the problem I'm having it, that the subtitles are popping up and going away way to fast to actually read any of it. the anime is in 1080p and I've tried using the different transcoding options but they all seem to act the same.. I've viewed the anime in the past with no problems on an older version of ums. I have the log to. hopefully someone can help me to solve this problem quickly, thanks for the help.

Hi johngcp, can you attach a log of a version that didn't have the problem too?

o.k. here is a log from when it worked just fine, I went back to the old version I had, which is 3.6.4 and the Subtitles work perfectly. The reason I upgraded is because the sound would be off if I used anything but transcoding ffmpeg. like if I used mencoder it the sound would be slightly off, and then later it would be way off. With the newer upgraded version both mencoder and ffmpeg sync the sound just fine it seems, although ffmpeg might be still slightly better. anyway but the subtitle are on screen for such a short time you most you can't even read a short word. Also I noticed the problem starts after watching it for a lil while. so when I first start it, the subtitles are fine, then they just start to pop on and off screen very fast. this is a different episode I did with the old version but if you need i'll do the exact same episode with the newer version so you can compare when exactly the problem starts. anyway this is the file that actually works just fine.

Try unticking "Defer to MEncoder for subtitles" on the FFmpeg section of the Transcoding Settings tab and it should work

thank you so much that seems to have worked perfectly... Again thanks for the help, and quick solution. is there a way to set ffmpeg to default, so it doesn't use the mencoder? Because now that I got it working right I do notice that the subtitles and sounds are a little off with mencoder?

oh yeah and sometimes with ffmpeg I get:
"This content cannot be played.
(800288E1)"

Does anyone know what that is, or how to fix it? sorry to attach it to this post but the search function won't let me put in most of the most useful words when looking for an answer to something.

You can completely avoid MEncoder by default by also unticking "remux videos with tsmuxer" in the FFmpeg settings. It will mean that all videos will be transcoded though instead of remuxed but it shouldn't be a problem on a fast network.

That's a bug at the moment and unfortunately we didn't get it fixed in time for 4.1.2, but hopefully it will be fixed in the release after that.
In the meantime you might want to roll back to 4.0.1 since that didn't have that bug :)
