MP4 File Will Only Play Audio

I'm trying to play an MP4 file but only the audio plays back while the tv screen remains blank. I'm trying to play it with no encoding or tsmuxer. The other engines (mencoder, ffmpeg and vlc) do work but there are stuttering issues due to what I presume are the limitations of my laptops' capabilities so I'm trying to get one of the aforementioned video engines to work.
