"Cover Art" for Folders (only)

I have submitted this as a feature request but wanted to see if I have missed something over the past few months of searching ...
Is there a way to give a folder covert art, without giving it to all files within the folder (mp4, etc) as in the case of using folder.jpg or folder.png .
I have noticed that if I put an albumart.jpg in a folder it will give cover art to all the files within the folder but not the folder itself. Basically I am looking for the reverse of this. I would like to give a folder a personalized cover, but still have all the files within get their autogenerated video thumbnail from the "Generate Thumbnails" feature.
I have searched for this for months but cant seem to find a loophole anywhere. Tried cover.jpg, [foldername].jpg, [foldername].cover.jpg, etc, etc, etc hoping that I am missing something but have come up blank.
Any info would be helpful. Thanks
