Scanning shared folders on another partition/drive

I have installed UMS (tried 5.1, 5.0, and 4.4) in the default location of c:\Program Files (x86)\Universal Media Server. My shared folders are on a D: drive. When I add them to the shared folder list, and tell UMS to scan all shared folders, the program begins and scans my ENTIRE C: drive. Nowhere did I tell it to share anything on C: drive.
Is this a known issue?
