Re: ffmpeg has a return code of 139
Did a little more digging , found the other thread here confirming there is a version sensitivity.
Seemed to to be the consensus on the wire the error is a segmentation fault.
Loaded the latest OSX version 2.6.2 and got the following raw messages:especially the line:
Could this be the root cause of these errors? If so, can it be fixed?
FYI: not sure if this version works for us - beyond my capabilities.

Re: ffmpeg has a return code of 139
Maybe try replacing ffmpeg with the version from here: http://www.osxexperts.net/ffmpeg/ffmpegexperts.html
Now while they have ones specifically for 10.7/10.6 you could also try this version: http://ffmpegmac.net/
and they have a generic one the works for all versions of OSX. Let me know how you go and if one fixes these issues as we may need to look into it more

Re: ffmpeg has a return code of 139
This is the version I tested. Seems to work fine. I'll test more later forcing it to transcode on a few files to be sure.

I forced the transcoding on all.
The video Blu-ray files seem to play. However, it does complain about the 'ass' filter:???

local build ffmpeg with libass
Summary:
The 139 error was a Segmentation Violation corrected in the latest 2.6.2 version. This led to another error:
I decided to build it locally. Their directions were lacking important details and the package was not easily configurable. Progress was slow, not easy but I did succeeded in building a static ffmpeg binary and no 'ass' errors:
Not sure if the rest is sane but now I know I can build and run.
I will need a little help in testing if it really works - subtitles, never seen any.
This file is 14.7MB vs 20.0MB for the pre-packaged v2.6.2.
I might not have all the libraries configured. I'll check later.

yes - cleaning up my notes during the build.
Could you beta test it for me since your system is virgin and I don't want to reinstall this one!
if yes - what is your system configuration(s)?
if 10.7 or 10.8, install or update to:
