UMS not seen permanently on Panasonic devices

Post by Username »

Hi,
I've two Panasonic devices on my network (a TX-P50VT50E TV and a DMP-BDT320 BluRay Player).

When I enter the DLNA menu on either device and then start up the UMS, I see it immediately, can access it, everything is working.

When I leave the DLNA menu and enter it again, I see the UMS for a split second in the server selection and then it is gone.

Or: when I start UMS and then enter the DLNA menu, I see the server for a split second and then it's gone.

In other words: the only way for me to access UMS is to be already in the DLNA menu and start the server.

Of course always starting/stopping the server is not an option :) but I'm wonder if anyone else has similar problems?

When I e.g. use my W7 PC as DLNA server, it works flawlessly on my TV/BluRay-Player.

UMS is running on headless on Debian Squeeze with jdk 1.7.0u9, mplayer is installed too.

Thanks for any help

Hi,
thanks for the reply. I just reproduced it. As seen from the log, two DLNA devices (is that the proper term?) were running on my network: the Panasonic TV and my W7 PC.

What I did to reproduce my problem:
  • Started TV, went into Media Server, saw my already running W7 PC
  • Started UMS, appeared after a few seconds on the DLNA server list on my TV
  • Left DLNA Server menu on my TV
  • Entered again: saw UMS for the split of seconds, then it disappeared. W7 PC was/is still present
  • Hit CTRL-c to stop UMS (that was around 22:13:48.467 )

Code: Select all

I've observed another thing: whenever I wait long enogh in my DLNA server browser menu on my TV, after some waiting the UMS pops ups; and coincidentally it matches the following message in the debug.log

Code: Select all

DEBUG 2012-11-19 18:11:10.765 [UPNP-AliveMessageSender] Sending ALIVE...
DEBUG 2012-11-19 18:14:14.874 [UPNP-AliveMessageSender] Sending ALIVE...
Given the message I don't consider this a big surprise :-)

I left the DLNA server browser on my TV right after the event at 18:11:10 and entered it again. It popped up once UMS sent another ALIVE message. What I'm seeing makes absolute sense to me.

However, I don't understand why my TV would delist/remove UMS when I leave/reenter the menu.

Or: when UMS is already running, I turn on my TV and go to the DLNA server browser. After a few seconds my windows machine shows up. UMS starts to appear when it sense the ALIVE message.

I don't know the technial details about all this network stuff going on, but is possible that the TV sends out a broadcast to find all devices and only the windows machine responds (or is the only one receiving the broadcast)?

Hi, I have exactly the same problem. Have you found any solution for it?
Thanks in advance.

No, I didn't/couldn't pursue it. App/config all is still there but unused. I still use my Windows machine as a DLNA server (means need to turn it on every time since it's my desktop machien).
