MEncoder SB43&SB44 Issue

When I try to stream a file that requires transcoding to my Xbox360 using the MEncoder engine, I get the following error on the Logs screen:

Code: Select all

11-25 03:04:45 Starting transcode/remux of [UTW]_Shinsekai_Yori_-_09_[h264-720p][FE13B7D6].mkv
11-25 03:04:45 Process C:\Program Files (x86)\Universal Media Server\win32\mencoder.exe has a return code of 3! Maybe an error occurred... check the log file
11-25 03:04:51 Started playing [UTW]_Shinsekai_Yori_-_09_[h264-720p][FE13B7D6].mkv on your Xbox 360
11-25 03:04:55 Stopped playing [UTW]_Shinsekai_Yori_-_09_[h264-720p][FE13B7D6].mkv on your Xbox 360
When I replace the copy of mencoder.exe in the \win32 folder with the SB42 build, everything works just fine. I'm just trying to figure out if this is a problem with my setup or with the latest mencoder build. I'm attaching my ums_dbg.zip so that the full log file the message there speaks of is available.

EDIT: I've changing the subject of this topic to reflect the fact that I'm having this issue with both the SB43 and SB44 MEncoder builds.

MEncoder SB44 Issue

Since it's been about a week since my original post and there's been a new release of UMS, I think it's best if I post again rather than edit my OP. If this is incorrect please just combine my posts.

I'm having the same issue with the SB44 build of MEncoder that I was having with the SB43 build. Namely, when I try to stream a file that requires transcoding to my Xbox360 using the MEncoder engine, I get the following error in the Logs tab:

Code: Select all

12-02 04:23:51 Starting transcode/remux of [WhyNot] Robotics;Notes - 08 [A7A99128].mkv
12-02 04:23:52 Process C:\Program Files (x86)\Universal Media Server\win32\mencoder.exe has a return code of 3! Maybe an error occurred... check the log file
12-02 04:23:58 Started playing [WhyNot] Robotics;Notes - 08 [A7A99128].mkv on your Xbox 360
12-02 04:24:02 Stopped playing [WhyNot] Robotics;Notes - 08 [A7A99128].mkv on your Xbox 360
When I replace the copy of mencoder.exe in the \win32 folder with the SB42 build, everything works just fine again. I'm attaching my ums_dbg.zip file from today here in the hopes that this provides enough information to help fix the problem.

I get the exact same problem, I was just using version 1.5.2 to get around it. tried using SB42 with release 2.2.1 and it works great.

I also ran into an issue with the mencoder engine. Whenever I played movies used with external subtitles it would return the same error "mencoder.exe has a return code of 3! Maybe an error occurred... check the log file". I just reverted the mencoder and to my surprise it worked. This problem occurred with the latest build 2.2.1

Same issue experienced here.

Using the included version of mencoder.exe (in UMC 2.2.1) results in this error:

The buffer underflow errors continue while the movie is successfully streaming.

It looks like a Mencoder issue with WMV2 Audio encoding. Something might have changed after SB42 regarding available options for encoding?

I did the exact same thing as above, I get the buffer underflow errors also, but about half of the mkv movies fail about 10 minutes in with a mencoder.exe has a return code of -1073741819 error.
Anyone got any ideas? I cant seem to find a solution.

I have the same problem, never had this problem before.. PS3.conf doesn't have the line (it's completely empty), so this should be handled through the GUI itself. I Have 'ASS/SSA subtitle styling' unchecked, but 'fontconfig' and 'embedded style' checked.. For now I just remuxed the original subtiles out of the mkv, but that shouldn't be the solution.. So I hope this will be fixed in the next release (I'm using 2.2.1)..

Downloading 2.2.2 now, will let you know in little bit.

With a clean 2.2.2 install still getting a memcoder error 3.
