audio streaming from a video file like .mkv

Quick question here. Been using PMS and asked there and then saw this newer software so I'm asking here and hopefully will switch.

When streaming a video file, for example an .mkv file that has multiple audio tracks, does the media server simply output (stream) the current video and audio track or does it just stream the entire file...hence more bandwidth?

For example, a Movie with a DTSHD-MA track and an AC3 track. If I select the AC3 track on my bluray player (or that is the only track that player will play), will it only stream the 448kbps of that audio track or will it stream the entire 2000+kbps(DTSHDMA track) plus the 448kbps of the ac3 track?

I ask because this will obviously affect how much bandwidth is needed to play a particular file and when using WiFi saving bandwidth is key. BUT, I'd like to be able to only keep one version of the file with everything in it I want instead of having two versions, one for wired LAN with HD codecs and one for WiFi with ac3 codec.

Another way of asking is there a way to get the media server to only stream the currently activated track? I want to avoid using transcoding.

Thanks

It depends on renderer. If file is fully supported then UMS sends video file as is.
If file is not supported, it depends if final video is transcoded or remuxed.
For every transcoded video, only one audio track is sent.
For remuxing by tsMuxeR, you can set your choose. By default only one audio track is sent (upon user preferred settings) but you can change it to mux all audio tracks.
