"no playable files" when streamed to Sony BR Player

Probably a SUE (Stupid User Error) type of Q.

I have a Sony Blu-ray Discâ„¢ / DVD Player Model BDP-S370/BX37

I have a Windows 10 laptop.

I installed the UMS with no issue. (though some of the install screens were VERY VERY small, and I had to install Java )

When I go to the Sony BR it sees the UMS.

When I browse, I see the movies.

Most, 99% say "no playable file". A few do. Those that do are mp4's and those that don't are also mp4's and mks ........

I "thought" that UMS would transcode on the fly ........ is there something I need to do to enable the transcoding ? On the Transcoding Tab, the only selection is "disable subtitles" which is un-checked.

I also have a win 7 machine with Serviio and all of the files play fine on it .........but there is some issue with Serviio and W10 and UMS was next in my list to try.

TIA .....Tom "SUE" Hinders

@darready I can't see any attempt to play anything in the log file you posted. To make proper debug files you have to start UMS, go to "Logs" and "Create TRACE logs". Click "yes" to restart UMS in trace mode. When UMS has restarted, then reproduce the problem - that is, try to play some "unplayable" files. Several attempts is good, files of different type if you have. When that is done, before you quit UMS, go to "Logs" and click "Pack debug files". Then post that here.

The reason for this is that the logfile is for the current session of UMS only. So, you have to have had the problems in the same session as the one you use when you choose "Pack debug files".

From the very little information in your current log file it seems to me like UMS has some problems recognizing your renderer (the bluray player). I noticed that in your UMS configuration you only have enabled a few renderer profiles:

Code: Select all

selected_renderers =Xbox, Android, VLC, Samsung, Chromecast, Sony Blu-ray (2013), XBMC
This means that UMS only has these few profiles to choose from when trying to recognize the renderer. In normal cases all renderers should be enabled. Disabling renderer profiles is first and foremost something you do if UMS picks the wrong renderer profile for a renderer, effectively masking the correct profile. Is the disabling of most of the profiles intentional? You can change this by clicking on the "Select renderers" button in the "General Configuration" tab.
