Hello.

Recently I installed Java Runtime Env 8 and Universal Media Server.

I am using my old out of warranty Samsung BDD5300 to connect to my Windows 7 PC which acts as a server via a 100mb wired connection.

On the Samsung device I have the latest firmware.

I have home videos that I prepared on the computer that is to be used for when company comes over this holiday season that can be watched via the connection to the computer without having to use a USB device.

I have realized that whenever my connection reaches 4 minutes of a 2 hour home video (which is equivalent to 25mb of a 750mb file) the device, meaning the BluRay player, prompts on the screen "Device Disconnected".

I can still access the Network within the options of the BluRay player. I can play all the videos, but at different length (25mb a piece it seems when I do the math).

I have had issues trying to connect the BluRay player to the internet lately, but no problems connecting to the server (Windows PC) to play media (the atypical Samsung 5 Year old 'partially breaks down magically on its own' common product policy built into their products after 2000). I have no need to go on the internet with the thing, so just the local server, which it connects to is my preference.

After checking the log file I discovered this:
So what's the problem?

I may have fixed the problem.

I check marked the box that says 'Prevent computer from sleeping'.

Even though I have sleep disabled on the PC, I do know that sleep packets can be sent out throughout the network to devices in advertently which can affect things in the network.

Right now I am just going to watch the vacation video and see what happens in a couple hours. So far it's past the 4 minute mark.

Well it seems check marking 'Prevent computer from sleeping' only extended the range of the movie to 10 minutes and the same result eventually happened. I tried playing the video again after restarting the device and restarting the computer and the video this time only played for 2 minutes which is way off the regular mark.

I should say I have discovered that my BluRay player unit also reassigns itself a new IP address every time it starts up. Could mean that the unit restarts it's own internet connection during playback and I suppose that could be the Device Disconnected issue. Wouldn't mind talking to someone who also has had this issue so we could brainstorm a solution.

As a side note, I've never heard of devices assigning themselves IP addresses unless your network setup is wrong. Assigning IP addresses is usually done by a DHCP server, often in the internet router. DHCP servers tend to remember the IP/MAC address combination and assigning the same IP to the same MAC address each time. It sounds like this doesn't happen in your case, which is unusual. I'd give the DHCP server a check, or if none exist on your network, use manual IP settings in all devices.
