XBOX360 external subtitles

Hi
Was trying to play an mp4 movie on the xbox360 via ums. It detected it had external subtitles but failed with some kind of 'can't play this format' error.
Removing the .srt file from the folder fixed the problem.
Just want to know if this is "normal" for ums or would this particular srt file be faulty perhaps?
