UMS stops randomly on PS4 (and PS3)

Hi I was wondering if somebody can help me with this problem I'm having with UMS.
I don't think the problem is PS4 exclusive as the same sort of thing happens when I try on my PS3. the video just freezes (on PS3 it will sometimes stutter and then freeze) and wont start again. to get it to play again it seems that I have to restart the PS4 media player and also have to restart UMS server (or it wont appear as a DLNA source in PS4 media player).

the server is wireless but the PS4 & PS3 are wired.

in the log it says "WARN Sending kill -14 to the Unix process: 12179"
but I have no idea what that means.

also I should say that this seems to happen regardless of file size or bitrate and will also happen without fail on all the filetypes that I have tried, so it's not just .MKV.

thanks for any help that you can offer. hopefully I've put enough information in this post, but if I haven't let me know.

Um, I tested it by connecting the server with a wired connection... and it played a whole movie without a hitch.
So I guess it was just the speed of the wifi. sorry for the false alarm.

I guess I will have to buy a powerline adaptor or something. unless there is a way of optimising UMS for wifi in the settings? limiting it to 30MB/s didn't work.

For transcoding you can adjust the bandwidth on the transcoding tab -> common settings -> Transcoding quality. By lowering the quality of the produced video stream, you should be able to get it low enough for wireless. When it comes to streaming, there's not much UMS can do, UMS is simply forwarding the file to the renderer.

Loads of people use UMS over wireless though, so it should be possible. But, it all depends on your wireless equipment, coverage, noise levels etc. I'm assuming you're using 802.11n or better, anything below that is probably very hard to get working.

Hello tootfriendly, one question. Can you stream to your PS4 for more than 20 minutes? In my case, after 20 minutes (more or less) the connection to the server is lost and I have to restart the multimedia player on PS4 in order to connect to the server again. I can see that it is a very common issue but nobody has come with a solution yet. If it is working ok for you, maybe you can help us with the problem. Thanks in advance.

I can. I've streamed for over an hour before. But all my networked devices have static IP addresses, if that makes a difference.

Yes I can confirm that I've been able to watch an entire full length movie without interruption last night from my Mac running UMS to my PS4.

I bought a power line adaptor yesterday and used that as the connection. It seems to have a much faster and probably more stable connection than my wifi does (although the wifi can handle multiple streams of Netflix and YouTube to at least 3 devices at once, so who knows).

I was having problems with my ps4 stopping playback and showing various errors about dnla, even with a fully wired connection, but I think I've tracked that down to my computer going to sleep. I couldn't find any way to stop MacOs from going to sleep while streaming, so instead I had to crank the sleep time up to 3 hours. Really, streaming shouldn't count as inactive...

Thanks for your help.
