Copy video to PS4

Just wondering if there is a way to copy MKV or other such files onto the PS4 directly through UMS like you can with the PS3? My internet connection is not great so I would rather copy the files over rather than try to stream. I just didn't know if there was some setting in UMS or that Sony just hasn't implemented the feature yet. Thanks.

Sorry I don't understand what are you speaking about. In the PS4.conf there is a

Code: Select all

Supported = f:mkv      v:h264         a:aac|ac3|mp3         m:video/x-matroska
Supported = f:mkv      v:h264         a:aac-he        n:2   m:video/x-matroska
which means that any mkv videos which matches those rules will be streamed not transcoded. So where is the problem?

EDIT: it is the same as it is used for PS3. There is not any video copy for PS3.

When using UMS with a PS3 there is an option to physically copy the file to the hard drive, i.e. copy a movie to the hard drive to watch later rather than stream it. I don't see that option on the PS4 to physically copy that file over onto the hard drive, only stream it. Nothing really to with streaming vs transcoding.

This must be some feature the PS3 has, UMS will simply deliver the file/stream on request, it's entirely up to the renderer if it chooses to play or store it.
