Best way to render 1080p MKV files on my PS3?

What are the best ways/settings to render 1080p MKV movies/files on my PS3 through Universal Media Server, as it lags badly for me after a few minutes?
What are the minimum specs for PC's to render 1080p MKV videos? What should I need to have on my PC (hardware wise), to improve performance?
Does the program only use CPU while transcoding or does it also render via GPU?

I'm using a low powered server (
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=624#p4116) so no video transcoding is the key. Use tsMuxer as your preferred engine, I'm watching 720p and 1080p videos w/o any stutter.
Caveat: no video transcoding means no subtitles...
I hope it helps, Wolf

You can try playing your videos with the FFmpeg engine via the TRANSCODE folder, since FFmpeg should transcode faster than MEncoder

How do I change the encoder my videos use?

If you want to always use FFmpeg you can go to the Transcoding Settings tab and select FFmpeg and use the arrow buttons in the lower left to give it top priority. I don't suggest that though because MEncoder is better for subtitles. So my suggestion is to do what I said in my first post (use the TRANSCODE folder)

To insert mkv to ps3, it is better to convert mkv to ps3 more supported MPEG-1, WMV, AVI.
Here is just the step by step guide on how to do that at
