finding media files on mac

i'm new to ums after using vuze and then serviio for a few years
when i try to set up the media files for ums to access i can only find all disks
when i search for my media files which are all on an external hard drive i can find that drive from my mac
however, when i open ums on my tv, i can find the volumns with many other non media files from the ums folder.
how can i set up ums so i can only access the media files on my hard drive?
