Renderers not found (When it feels like it)
Hello all,
I've been having an on-going issue with both UMS and PS3MS... I switched over to UMS recently seeing that both are similar.
When I first moved over to my new house things began to go bad. PS3MS would find/recognize renderers when it felt like it. After finding UMS, I was excited that it was similar but "better" than PS3MS... still having the same issues... PLEX connects flawlessly BUT subtitles never load... I've turned off both my Windows Firewall and my ASUS router's firewall and get similar issues... I'm lost with this issue. Before things would run perfectly and the media server would recognize everything upon starting the software. I don't understand why things are so unstable now on both software.

Unfortunately I don't have a solution for you, but I do have a question. When you first noticed things, going bad as you put it, after your move, did you also update to Windows 10 in that same time frame? I have this theory that Windows 10 is the culprit so I'm running a tally.
Re: Renderers not found (When it feels like it)
No, I updated to Windows 10 a couple of weeks before the move. I also thought the same thing that probably an update somewhere could of altered something within the firewall or some registry strings were altered along the way. Once I reverted things back to Windows 7 the same thing continued. I started testing shutting off both my router's firewall and window's firewall. Things seemed to get better with PS3MS... ultimately I stumbled upon UMS and seeing they were similar but "better" figured it might solve some issues.
The good news is, the target renderer is functioning somewhat stable with Window's firewall off and the router's firewall on. I did add PS3MS and thereafter deleting PS3MS for UMS into the windows firewall list but that didn't work. So far my Samsung HT is picking up the signal... my Samsung TV and Samsung BD Player are touch and go whenever they feel like connecting. Hopefully that helps explain somewhat. Can't blame windows 10 for everything lol.

Now it doesn't want to work... it's just unstable for some reason. Turned off both firewalls and nothing... downgraded j8u91 to j8u71 and nothing. Left it at j8u91, reinstalled UMS and nothing. I'm about to connect it directly to the modem to see what's going on. Missed when everything worked.
The forums are quite slow and not really helpful too...

...now UMS sees the target renderer but the renderer doesn't see UMS.... wtf?!

Re: Renderers not found (When it feels like it)
I feel your pain. I'm not having the exact issues you are, but I'm somewhat relieved that Windows 10 isn't the culprit. My issue right now is that I can't watch a full 2 hour movie without having to restart the movie somewhere in the middle, UMS just disappears for no reason.
Re: Renderers not found (When it feels like it)
I've had that similar issue before... it seemed to remedy itself. There was about a week of solid service but then it took a crap yesterday. Either I find an alternative or figure this out. I'm literally out of ideas as to how I can fix this. I think it might be hardware issues but I can't be certain. I even updated my onboard NIC just incase... *sigh*
Re: Renderers not found (When it feels like it)
Ok, here is another update. I recently downloaded Serviio and PlayOn, they both recognized both my TV and HT without any issued. Put on a movie for my daughter and while using Serviio via the HT BOTH Serviio and PlayOn disconnected... the TV still had connectivity to both media servers.... hmm, that leads me to believe even though both media servers are active and one is transcoding/communicating to it's target renderer something is timing out. So, it leads me back to my NIC configurations and/or my ASUS Router (RT-AC87R)...
I have to fix this nonsense lol.

Re: Renderers not found (When it feels like it)
Based on your last post it seems it's not anything to do with UMS. Thanks for letting us know and I hope that network issue gets resolved

Re: Renderers not found (When it feels like it)
Even so, what could be causing the time out? What is explained when UMS see's the target renderers but the renderers don't see it?
