UMS won't start from the .exe

Hey guys, I'm hoping you can help me troubleshoot an issue.
The first time I installed UMS, it went without a hitch. It worked better and was more intuitive to me than any other media server I've used. But after I rebooted my computer, UMS failed to start. I read in another thread that running it as a service as well as when Windows starts could be an issue. I set it to do that on first install. But then, I couldn't get the program to run again. I clicked on the icon, nothing. Run as admin, nothing. Uninstalled, ccleaner, reinstalled. Still would not start. So as a last resort, I went into the program directory and double clicked the .jar executable. Lo and behold, it started up right away. It's running now like nothing is wrong. But if I close it down, it will not restart by clicking on the .exe. I have to start it from the .jar.
The only thing I can think of is that I recently updated to the latest version of Java, perhaps there was a problem with me doing that. If someone can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.
